Even though it's not wrong, it feels unfair if Bali is the "only face" that is referred to when foreigners ask about tourist destinations in Indonesia. In fact, Indonesia, which is geographically an archipelagic country, has other tourism potential. The potential is no less beautiful than Bali, but in terms of popularity it still needs to be encouraged.

The desire to advance the economy through the development of tourist destinations seems to be welcomed by the government. Therefore, the Ministry of Tourism then released a list of 10 priority tourist destinations in Indonesia. The ten places included in it are expected to be able to bring in 12 million foreign tourists in 2016 and continue to increase in the following years. The destinations in question are:

1. Lake Toba in North Sumatra

For the people of Indonesia, the name of the lake that has Samosir Island in the middle is definitely familiar. Moreover, Lake Toba is mentioned quite often in social studies elementary school textbooks. Here you can do a variety of interesting activities such as sailing to Samosir Island, getting to know Batak history by visiting past sites, meeting Sigale-gale dolls, and if you visit in the right month you can participate in the Lake Toba Festival (a collaboration between with ministries).




2. Tanjung Kelayang in Bangka Belitung

Belitung has many tourist attractions. Starting from landscape recreation to cultural tourism, namely Lengkuas Island, the Laskar Pelangi Museum, a replica of the Muhammadiyah Gantong Elementary School, and do not miss Tanjung Kelayang which is our focus this time. This is a harbor located on the western tip of Flores Island and is the entrance to the Komodo National Park. Here visitors can enjoy the beauty of the underwater by swimming, snorkeling, sailing, or just sitting around enjoying the beauty of the landscape.

5. Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi

The underwater charm of Wakatobi National Park cannot be doubted. Wakatobi has an area of ​​1.4 million hectares, of which 900,000 hectares consist of colorful tropical coral, where millions of marine species live. In the world, Wakatobi is famous because it is called the ecosystem of the most diverse sea corals and fish species in the world.



6. Morotai Island in North Maluku

Morotai Island is touted as the "pearl on the lips of the Pacific". This nickname is not without reason because the location is indeed in the north of Halmahera Island, North Maluku. Similar to Wakatobi, Morotai is also famous for its underwater beauty. No wonder then that many tourists do diving activities here. What's more interesting is that Morotai keeps World War II historical artifacts neatly. In that era, Morotai was used as an air defense base which was fiercely contested by America and Japan.



7. The Thousand Islands in Jakarta

The Thousand Islands have many islands that can be explored. Call it Tidung Island, Pramuka Island, Pari Island, and so on. 9. Borobudur in Central Java

Needless to say, this largest Buddhist temple in the world has always attracted a lot of curiosity from tourists. Since being made a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1991, Borobudur has always been crowded with visitors. Apart from seeing the temple complete with statues and stupas, traveling here will also be even more amazing because it is supported by the beautiful landscape that surrounds it. 10. Bromo Tengger Semeru in East Java

Because Indonesia is indeed surrounded by a ring of fire, this list would not be complete without mountain tourism. The Bromo Tengger Semeru complex has always been the target of mountain climbers and tourists who like adventure in nature. Mount Semeru has a super famous lake called Ranu Kumbolo which is located at an altitude of 2,400 meters above sea level.
